The point I'm trying to make is that a contractor job is not bad for low-level developers. If you are content with taking order doing bolts and nuts kind of work, a wage about $55/hr (about 150K/yr, if the entire year is billable)is very good. But this is pretty much the ceiling for a developer. If you want to go beyond just being a developer, this is not good enough. A resume full of contracting experience is not gonna help you much on applying for an architect or senior management position.
