Whether it's good or bad all depends on which stakeholders you belong to, in other words where your PG is. Negotiations like such do not involve end users and engineers it's 100% business that's how the game is played. So you opinion dos not deserve a shit if you speak as an end user or a designer. Yeah technology is merchandise but not every piece of comparable technology carries the same value. There is sth called entry barrier and how to create it and use it to maximize a firms capital return that's what this game is all about.
