I believe the earlier human beings (H. sapien) are still hairy and not so dark. It seems to me that the evolution of loosing hair is much slower than skin color development. For example, whites are still hairy. I don't think they regrew hair.
However, I agree that most H. erectus disappeared and only H. sapien left and replace all old people. I think earlier human beings continuously walked out of Africa even after the invention of agricuture. I will change my post according to this.
The most important thing is not why people get lighter, but how Chinese got yellow skin while European got white. These stuff occurred much recently, way after H. Sapien or whatever. Probably after the establishment of variety tribes.
