chinese football is like chinese government, bashing them becomes a favorite hobby.

but in both cases, the problems lie deep in our culture. every chinese shares some blame.

nobody plays football! 1.4 billion people, so what?! all say america being indifferent to football, but weekends one can find so many kids playing, esp girls. no wonder they are women football superpower. and mark my world, their men's team will get the world cup in 20 years.

and we chinese, we talk, watch, with cigarettes and beers, but sorry, no playing. one goes to 6park.com, the site maninly for overseas students in europe, they have 1 more habit, gambling!

don't use educations as excuse:

korea parents are as serious as chinese on kids' education, but korean team have qualified for world cup finals every time since 1986! china? 2002 only. 3 losses, 0-2, 0-4, 0-3!

and don't use facilities as excuse:

those in africa, latin america slums, the poor kids play with self made balls, in all kinds of fields, cement, soil, grass, whereever they can find place.

and don't use government, corruption as excuse:

iraq, deep in war and turmoil, reached last 4 in '04 olympics, won asia cup in '07.
