Our traditional history teaching back in mainland
was exactly that. There is always black and white,
evil vs hero, like most Hollywood movie.
Only in the US, after hearing many arguments and
differences of opinions, I learn how normal,
otherwise well-behaving people who mean to do
the world go can be misled to support evil AND
feel actual good about it at the time.
A look into the minds of people in those era
is very helpful in figuring out how we can do to
prevent tragety from happening again.
Instead, what we hear is a simplified version of
explaination, Japanese invaded us because they
are evil in their blood, therefore,
even today if we do the same kind atrocity as
a revenage, it would be okay. At least I hear
those logics consistently from self-proclaim
"patriots".
