I think there is no offense in using treadmill although I don't agree with Landers' way of reasoning (but his conclusion should be correct).

The large population in CHina has nothing to do with early, universal marriage and lots of children. IN fact, in the whole world, everywhere, people got married earlier and have lots of children. For example, in England around Darwins era, most people have average 10 children, and in the US, Benjamin Franklin's father had more than 10 children (some died).

The large population is due to relatively stable society and sophisticated agriculture. A unified country is essential for big population.

Take for example, during three kindoms and southern-northern period, the northern place was so short of people that lots of caucasians moved in, but fortunately they were all killed.
