Whether medicare program can sustain depends on how well the government manages the national debt. At this point of time it is still managable, even without the cut of medicare program. And the US government, despite its size and the constant complains we hear from people, is still the more efficient one in the world.

And the cost of drug production, meaning excluding R&D cost, is very low. Generic drugs are cheap. And they can be outsource to other countries to lower the prices even more.
