No, it makes perfect sense to say "Trees blossom".

If you google, you can find a lot of expressions like
Apple trees blossom ..., Cherry tress blossom, ...
The man who made trees blossom ...,
blossom trees, etc.

Trees start to grow back in the spring, and grow into blossoms in the summer. If you videotape such a tree from a distance, you would find this tree grows just like a flower. Isn't a tree itself a poem? :-)
