nothing is free. SuanZhang theory applies to this too. Rights always come with obligation. Let me tell you if you want to be respected as waht you just said the obligations you must fulfill.

Number one, ATTITUDE! Understand your role, be a team member and stay positive at all time. Having a neutral attitude is not acceptable. Number two, NEVER give your boss surprise! Keep in mind your boss will not be truely positively surprised no matter how well you do, although he may pretend to. He always expect you to accomplish more than what is assigned to you. Number three, observe chain of command at all time, aka always remeber who the boss is! Your boss is trained NOT to be your personal friend.

If you fail to observe there ground rules, it is guaranteed you won't be truely respected and your career won't excel. There is an exception in some companies though, these people are labelled as "whistleblower". In reality, they are only a tiny minority.
