That's before the Internet. A lot of Indian literature is written in English. 30 years, nobody (basically) can communicate with a English speaker in China. Look now? One of colleagues told he had no problem communicating with people in the cities when he visited China 2 yrs ago. Remember Internet has been around only 10 years. Can you imagine if it's been around for 100 years?
