You may ot may not notice that there is a difference between the written languages used by people from mainland and the people from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and overseas. Influenced by the west, perhaps mostly by the Soviet Union, the structure of the written language used in PRC is more leaning towards western style. This may well have to do with the fact that the revolutionaries and the majority people - poor people - were less educated and most of them were even illiterate. During and after the revolution (1927 - 1949) led by the communists, they were exposed to the Marxism, democracy, socialism and communism, none of them existed in the Chinese culture nor could they be presented in the traditional Chinese. As a result, we see the divergence of the languages used in PRC and overseas.
