regarding R2's rocket booster. It said the manufacturer of R2 unit has limited supply for those rocket booster, and its warrenty expired after 20 years. That might be the reason why R2 had never flew in the original Triology. Also, R2 was damaged and rebuilt in "New Hope." Perhaps, not everything was restored.
