Health care insurance and social security system are concerns but not unsolvable problems. Remember it only took one boom (the internet boom) to pay a large portion of the debt? The government just has not commited itself to address this problem. Think about it, if canada and other european countries can afford it, why can't americans afford it.
In the mean time, there's a type of insurance called Long Term Care Insurance that you can buy to address this problem yourself. It's not expensive - 150+/year depending on your age.
