回答: you certainly could run Linux/Solaris on a Wintel machine 由 kumusta 于 2005-6-02, 15:34:02:

Think about you need a workgroup visualization server, which has 8 CPUs. Wintel does usually have such configuration, and you ended up buying Unix machine. It is reasonable to buy lower-end single CPU workstations which is binary compatable with the server. Or if the project targets on big telco machine runs Unix, it is also reasonable to buy binary compatable unix machine, although it may be more expensive than wintel. Of course, that isn't a good thing, since it is still more expensive. Until more people buying Unix workstation, it won't be very cheap. However, the price for unix workstation has come down significantly. Buying a dual-itanium2 workstation is at the same price as buying high-end Sun workstation with two ultra-sparcIV, or IBM powerstation, or the HP one.
