回答: 唐氏综合症的病因并非原来想像的那么简单。 由 Latino2 于 October 25, 2004 14:53:28:

I have a few questions after reading the reports. Note I have no biology background. The questions just rise from logic considerations.

1. Have anyone ever produced a mouse with Down syndrome? How? Does the report suggest that making a 3rd copy of the complete chromosome 21 would make Down syndrome-bearing mouse, but a partial copy won't do?

2. What the research proved is that the 3rd copy of some genes does not necessarily lead to Down syndrome. Does it say anything to the reverse? Namely, is Down syndrome possible without the extra copy of genes?

3. If the answer to 2 above is no, why would that invalidate the gene therapy? I thought gene therapy would remove the 3rd copy of genes. Is that correct?

4. It is a common practice to abort the fetus with Down syndrome. In light of this research, does that mean many potentially healthy fetus were aborted?

Thanks in advance to Latino2 or anyone who answers.
