Chinese students are mostly working for the degree not for sake of research.

btw: to earn Hukou, to switch jobs, to come to big cities, not their fault though. They could hardly concentrate on their study.

What I heard these days is that graduate student positions are regarded as social ranks in the society. Student dropout rates are low in China just because universities and the professors are not willing to take the social ranks away from the students.

Students are slaves all over the world, China is no acception. Just ask those post-docs in medicine in the US.
