After deployment, one of the two servers in the farm stopped working. The operation team double checked the deployed package, and they are ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL. That turned out to be the problem. A configuration file contains a password to access another server, and that must be encrypted locally. Obviously someone forgot about that, and copied blindly from one server to the other:)
