the whole writing is more like a product of political struggle between opposing fractions.

lack clarity, substance, and details.

few of the troubles mentioned are really due to the dam itself.

relocation of people, that's politics, not a scientific issue.

pollution and contamination? more to do with modern civilization. yellow river dooesn't have such a huge dam, but those problems are even worse there. india hasn't built a dam as huge as ours, but their water pollution problems ar eno less severe.

geological disasters? again, where'e the evidence or serious research to support that claim. hoover dam soon will be about 100 years old, is there any serious accusations on it? but we all know how big contribution it made to america's development. it's true colorado river's water is decreasing, even not able to reach sea. but mainstream views blame climate change and california's huge appettite for water, not the dam.

and drought, flood, quakes? no fairly educated people will blame them on the dam. of course, when drought happens, the dam should release soem water to alleviate downstream problems, ogvernment already is doing that.

the only well-established ill effect of damming is on species protection, but compared with other urgent human needs, i am sorry, but a few precious creatures might have to preserve only in captivity. it's the small sacrifice we have to make.

it's well know li peng is the one behind 3 gorges dam, and both zhu and wen are not much fans of it. but as a serious and responsible politician, on such a crucial and hot topic (note how much frenzy the council's report arose all over the world, how much ammunition it gives to all kinds of anti-hydropower people), it's simply not right to issue such a scientifically unreliable, vague and confusing writing.

china needs hydropower and the abilities to utilize it. every non-wksn should know and believe that. and where to find a better river than yangtze? it's the biggest, and many other big ones are internaitonal, making more trouble on building dams.

china now is filled with anti-science and pseudo-science, and government lacks credibility. the release of such a flimsy document will only make things worse.
