Tank gun design is different, the inside of the gun barrel needs to be very hard to sustain friction, and the barrel needs to dissipate heat fast for repid firing. It doesn't have to be very strong like the armour which is designed to sustain hit by KE penertrator and high-expolisve anti-tank (HEAT) round. To fire shot into the barrel, or put a rock at the end of the barrel are unlikely to introduce any harm to the tank.
