...is whether you can have a regularly self-renewing system in which the *methology*, rather than the result, of renewal is agreed upon as "fair" by all people of all opinions (which naturally includes various checks of balances of power in the system). Democracy is not perfect, but it's the best you have in this regard. What you said in the thread above, focusing on "who's in charge", was really missing the point. Whether you go for a monarchy or continue with a single party, it's still totalitarian: no checks and balances, no preceived "fairness" by the masses, and most importantly, no chance of a peaceful regular renewal. It's a sealed boiling pot, waiting to explode.
