A few causes of impotence may be iatrogenic (medically caused). Surgical intervention for a number of different conditions may remove anatomical structures necessary to erection, damage nerves, or impair blood supply.
In the case mentioned by Latino2, seems the impair blood supply could have been the main factor. All the blood goes somewhere else.
