all chinese lawyers call jd 博士. Xu just followed the rules. jd is not the point here. and the translation of jd is not a problem at all. the point is that he doesn't have so many academic achievements to be regarded as a 院士 in chinese world. and his translation apparently misled a lot of people. therefore it becomes a problem.
