Bay Bridge Run Is Again Canceled

A longtime fixture on the area's running calendar, the Governor's Bay Bridge Run, was officially canceled for the second year in a row Tuesday, despite efforts to re-route the course from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

The Annapolis Striders, organizers of the race, proposed an alternate course through Sandy Point State Park after state authorities canceled the race for security reasons. Park officials and the Anne Arundel County Police Department denied the club's request.

Race director Charlie Muskin said he was told there wasn't adequate time to prepare for the May 4 race, in which nearly 3,000 were entered. It was the fourth race on the Striders'
