In Government Accountability Office (GAO) publication titled "Low Defined Contribution Plan Savings May Pose Challenges to Retirement Security, Especially for Many Low-Income Worker," 2007, where Defined Contribution Play Savings is so-called 401k, and it study suggested typical mixture of the DC plan ranging for 60 - 75% of stock, and 40-25% bonds including government and corporate bonds. I don't know where you get your idea of 401 K composed mainly of bonds. Except the risk-free treasury bond, other corporate bonds just like stocks, better, but not risk-free. I don't see how you can be so sure.
