回答: But it's more efficient to derive energy from grain than meat, is it not? 由 Enlighten 于 2005-2-15, 17:19:43:

our human body is geared to use glucose. For example, brain accounts alomost one fourth of our energy expenditure, but it can only use glucose, or some ketone at most.

On the other hand, there are foods having higher glycemic index than grains do, i.e., breaking down to glucose faster than grains. For example, banana, watermelons, sweet patatos. Please note, American Indian's staple was once only patato.

Grains are by no means the best energy resource. It is just because they are widely available and was cultivated a long time ago.
