Unless you and your wife have extra bonus $ to spend and want a nice piece of funiture in house, for beginner esp. kids, DP is preffered than a real piano, because there are a lot useful functions(i.e. metronome, recorder, demo, headset etc.) you will find very useful when coaching your kid at home.

Also keep in mind DP is basically maintaince free and a realone costs to tune twice a year.
