here. I think Englighten mad e a good point above. Unobserved "family knit" which can also affect happiness is correlated with the included variable--money spent. Hard to think of any treatment can overcome it--unless they have a random experiment, which is what the 3rd one attempted to be.

But then came the issue of all economic experiment--too small a stake.
