1) running won't increase muscle mass very much

2) the post exercise energy expenditure has been recently discovered only last half to one hour.

3) past guidelines on exercise are mostly based on research on athletes, which are misleading to common jogging folks

4) there is no such big deal of increasing energy burning in the muscle cells. Fat burning in cells is largely determined by genes.

5) Weight bearing exercise such as weight lifting can increase muscle mass which may help resting energy expenditure. But many people cannot add much muscle anyway.

6) another sad thing is even the resting energy expenditure is largely genetically determined.
