I say the only thing that divides, or shapes up social classes is "value" one possesses and is perceived by others. See capital is important becuase it carries good value, but so is intellectual property, market competitive advantages, personal assets, community, religion, family, rights/power used to defend or to re-define ones value etc. So there is no easy way to define "middle class", man! But one thing is certain: if two groups don't share the same value orientation, no matter how rich they think they are, they still belong to two different classes.
