1. I once drove back froom Brookhaven Nat Lab at Long Island all the way back to Chicago without stop. That was after working all night and day at the beamline. On the long and boring strech of Hwy 80/94 in Indiana, I graduately fell into sleep and I think I must have blamked out for half a minute and next thing I knew my car drifted to the next lane, and there was a semi in front of me. If I didn;t wake up in time, who knows what would happen.
2. This one was on Hwy-55 from Chicago to St. Louis. In the evening about 10pm. It was snowing pretty heavily. I was on the left south bound lane and all of sudden I saw a van 500 yards away driving towards me on my lane. I was doing 75 mile/hr and road was wet. Luckily the van was so slow (must be around 15 mile/hr), I switched to the right lane in time to avoid the head-on crash and there was no vehicle around that time. The driver must be lost and looking for the exit to turn. Imaging if there was a semi, he would be killed instantly.
