Julia Robinson, one esteemed mathematician partially solved Hilbert's 10th problem, fell in love w/ a teacher in the department Rapheal Robinson when she was doing her PhD in UC Berkeley. Because of this relationship, she has to drop her study to avoid nepotism. She only got her PhD in Princeton/Institute of Advanced Studies when her husband was visiting Institute of Advanced Studies/Princeton.

This even happened in the liberal UCB.
