回答: merit of these studies--yes, plenty. 由 psycho 于 2005-11-15, 12:14:12:

most people are obsessed in their own research, not because their research will improve human beings a lot, but because they are trapped by their own net.

Many people I talked with don't agree Thomas Kuhn's paradigm shifting idea. It makes them feel sad because they are doing misc things from the very beginning. This is particularly true for social scientists.

I personally don't think the paradigm is that important. Small studies accumulate the scientific knowledge which serves the hot bed for scientific revolution. The Maxism point of view that quantitative accumulation induces qualitative change has the same meaning of Thomas Kuhn's idea. Scientific advancement is more like continumum rather than discrete movement.

In a sense, if not Einstain, somebody else will discover the general relativity theory. Science then is ready for the big movement.

But there are many people smarter than Einstain. Unfortunately, they are not in the field Einstain worked on, and the science has not advanced enough for a genius to discover anything.

Anyway, only a handful people have the luck to work on the important things. The Tsinghua guy who quit the PhD study definitely didn't understand the science.
