Our ideas do not appear to have much conflict. The arguement therefore should stop now.
However, if a theory contributes nothing new, it is redundant, i.e. useless, at least. This particular theory is very harmful and misleading before your arbitrary '取其精华，去其糟粕'. I see no point of defending it.
Hypothesises, as well as the theories, serve as guidelines of experimental practice. When proven wrong, they should be abandon as soon as possible. Patching them up to show tolerance of wrong ideas is betrayal of truth.
Tolerance of people is alright, but that is no excuse for taking the wrong side in an argument.
