because temperature is not only a description of kinetic energy, it'd be better to describe it as the quantity to specify how the speeds of the particles in a system are DISTRIBUTED in different energy states (partition).

The speed of light is certainly the limit of all particles, but infinitely high temperature is required for ALL particles to approach a uniform, high speed.

The best way to fully understand temperature is from Boltzmann distribution.
