When it comes to the spec and the requirement for certain works, you need to choose the best technology to achieve it. If I have to choose a common computing platform, which is behind the protected network, I will choose of M$ windows. If it is embedded, I will choose perhaps embedded Linux, or VxWorks. If the product has to pass NSA, then I'll find something that is NSA certified. It is that simple. Nothing to do with ego, just good business.
