These two definitely graduated from top MBA program. They knew what exactly they were doing, which is illegal. That is why they used their mother's name to open a trading account, and tried to hide the trace.
If I were the judge, I would punish them even more if they use this "culture difference BS" as defense. Just take the responsibility for what you do. That is sort of risk for the profit they seek to gamble.
