Poll: Vast majority wary of China-made products

"Made in China" has a new meaning these days: "Don't buy me."

From Aug. 29 to Sept. 4, visitors to TBJ's Web site were asked, "Have recent product recalls from China made you change your buying habits?"

Of the 255 people who responded, 186 - almost three-quarters - said yes. Only 69 respondents, or 27 percent, said no.

What follows is a sampling of readers' comments on the question, all of which were made anonymously:

"I'm checking labels more carefully, and if the information is not on the label I'm researching the product on the Web."

"I've thought about it, but I haven't acted on making any real changes."

"Having worked for a manufacturing company who outsourced manufacturing to China, I know firsthand how poor Chinese-made products can be. Whenever possible, I avoid purchasing products made in China."

"When I see 'Made in China' on an item, I put it back on the shelf or hangar. It is getting harder to find anything that is not made in China, and as an American citizen, I highly resent it. Our citizens need work, also."

"With three young kids, it's on our radar screen for sure."

"Few alternate choices exist - what other options do we have? EVERYTHING is made in China nowadays!"
