I have to disagree. "Dark Age" is largely characterized by people's lack of reasoning ability and of knowledge of the world in whole. Thus the "end" of this era should be a change of direction to undo those things. In that sense, I think Renaissance is a good mark showing that the tide has turned, although the entire Europe is still under strong church rule.
Black Death could be a very important factor that ushered Europe into The Age of Reason, but I wouldn't use that as a mark though.
Just my personal opinion.
