the most important/effective/reliable/affordable safty device in a car is the DRIVER. Don't count on anything else to keep you alive.
I will definitely buy a chinese made car if the price is right. I think my life is worth $10m, and the chance I will have a deadly head-on collision is 1% in the next 50 years. Suppose I change my car every 5 years, if the cost of this car(with poor safty record) is $10m*1%*5/50 = $10k cheaper than the similar car which has a very good safty record(so good that it is guaranteed to keep me unscratched in the same accident), I will buy it.
