After all, Japan didn't have enough resources like oil, steel and things like that. Japan couldn't get them from China anyway. If Japan left China alone and just invaded South East Asia, Japan won't have lost too. Again, the Japanese Army couldn't get the resources back to Japan, even after it occupied almost all South East Asia. It didn't make a difference.
