in today's world all types of resource can be traded, explicitly or otherwise(land for example). The competitive advantage American have today is matched by no body. There is no reason US should be worried that they won't be able to gain access to resource through trade.

Unless they don't want to pay the MARKET PRICE. Winning a war is one viable alternative of gaining access to resource at a price lower than that set by the market. So I say if Americans all think in the way you think, they are not true free market believers. In fact I think many Americans in deed don't believe in free market although they may claim they do. There is nothing wrong about this though. Free market is certainly not the only way history evolves. From this perspective, you can see how wonderful WTO is. I say WTO is the most wonderful thing human being have invented so far.
