since you are a southern people, chances are you may already have the antibody for HAV.
HBV is more dangerous because it can cause liver cancer. However, the worst thing of HBV is the chronic damage to liver. It may go on and on till the end of life.
In patients with the active chronic liver diseases, about 1% (?) will develop liver cancer.
However, you can prevent all these by vaccination. If you are really scared, go and get HBV vaccination. Great britain gives you free health care, who don't you use it? :-)
