For pages whose MIME type is text/plain, you may want to indicate the charset in the response header:
Encoding: GB18030
Or in httpd.conf:
AddDefaultCharset gb18030
Otherwise browsers may not be able to guess it correctly.
Hopefully other people will follow suite to set up more mirror sites!
