In the end. Their view used to be the mainstream in west, that’s how h1n1, mers, sars were dealt. But at this moment, it is minority view.

One might argue that WHO is deeeply influenced by China, but what about majority of west scientists, are they all silent or bullied by government? No way, and considers this, who remained to be a few allies of Sweden way are trump and Brazil president, quite ironic , ha? So if scientists want to argue in favor of Sweden way, I am sure trump would be very happy to encourage that.

The biggest turning point for scientists and all people including politicians is one word:

Italy.

What happened there was too shocking, too horror for scientist to keep the old way, let alone for lay persons and politicians. It was just too much pressure. People just wanted one voice: do Something please, we don’t want to be the next Italy. That was how Britain changed, last time I read news Sweden was too under huge pressure to change.

This is a new virus, too many unknowns, some of them might be in favor of this do something view:

1 it might be gone just all by itself, sars mers gone that way never well explained, why not covid19 too. Though many think at now it looks highly unlikely.

2 summer break. This though got many many hopeful including scientists, in the end the new virus is 80% similar, it is very likely giving us preciuos breathing time ( literally ) to develope some drugs or strategies.

3 mutation and weaker weaker. This is also a good chance as many viruses share it.

So by artificially interfering we may get lucky break to really make a difference: decreasing death tolls.

I think that is why most governments and people in this world choose to shutdown, it is reasonable both scientifically and politically.

Of course all those factors could be wrong, this new virus just won’t give us any break, in that case Sweden would the model to follow, and we just have to all tough up” it can’t be helped, sorry”. But we don’ t know, right? Again I have to ask why it is so hard for virologists to study temp sensitivity of viruses? As long as there is chance, let alone quite valid ones, we can’t just give it up and let it be, right? Even if it is that dinosaur killing meteorite coming again at us or yellow stone finally decices to erupt and destroy all of us, in which two cases we basically can do nothing, we are still going to fight, no matter how low chance, right?

Btw, the thinking that let young get herd immunity and keep vulnerable isolated, it is naive, impractical, already debunked by many experts and politicians. First, vulnerable state are not that small Percentage, we have too many with underlying conditions. We have elderly living together with us, nursery home haves to be cared for by healthy ones who could later infect them, as already showed in Seattle and many many places.

Finally, I have to say again Sweden could still be right, but clearly now it is minority view, and there are good reasons for that. Fang always introduces mainstream science, this time it doesn’t look that way.
