recent years west report on china economy is totally dominated by negatives, many compare china to japan.

it would be really lucky china can compare to japan. so called lost decade of japan was totally non sense. i stayed a few years there, in many ways japan is one of the best places, so peaceful, so safe, so orderly, police many times have to focus on trivial matters, bored elderly committed petty crimes just to get attention. japan has high respect across world, except china and korea (now cutting down anti-japan stuff). longest life span, enjoy what ever world leading cutting edge tech.

economy was really fine during this "bad" stretch, deflation actually increased ordinary people income, unlike america. now so called better turn for japan might actually not be so good, inflation returns finally, but that is hurting common people.

just like america, no matter how economists praise economy and overlook inflation harm, majority americans simply don't buy it, every month bills say everything, minus and plus, simple math!

what japan really need to do is culture:

social stagnation, so called eastern values give too much power to elderly, where is elon musk?

women rights. shameful! compared to overall place of japan in the world, tw is way better, even china, japan only look better than korea on this matter. liberating women is not just social, it's economy too! whatever man can do, women can, many times better.

xenophobia, again compared to its overall status in the world, very shameful. immigrants will bring more fresh air, ideas, culture, everything to "boring" japan. it's fine japan want ot do this cautiously, but it need a concrete, clear roadmap to increase immigration gradually.

nytimes just had one report on japan, telling both plus and minus of japan.

japan in many ways is china's future, wang feng, a famous
demographer i used to think is just another wksn on popultion issue, actually is different, first a few months ago he wrote china population stagnation is not all bad, then later he told npr thwhat i just said:

china already has enough wealth, economy big enough, more or higher growth is not #1, social justice and narowing income gap is.

again as i always say i like many of xi's ideas, but not his way.

like haley said about trump, she likes many his ideas, but not his way or ethics.
