Most of clinic procedure can be conducted by an experienced nurse. The only reason patients (and insurance company) must pay $$$ for a visit to a doctor for something like cold (and therefore to keep doctors employed) is government regulation. Why is such a regulation always in the best interests of all patients?

It's nonsense to say a doctor is well paid because he needs to go through training lengthy training blah blah blah. How much does it cost to attend medical school? How does that compare to the wealth he can accumulate for the rest of his life? I say in average doctors end up much wealthier at the age they die than PhDs of other professions. How is that justified? How is it justified a doctor earning x million dollars? THis money is certainly more than the cost he spent in traning, it his profit, and profit from whom? I am fed up with such crap that American doctors have high moral ground blah blah (but I am not saying they are less moral than other profession either).

And what the big deal of being on call 24/7? It's only on call he still can sleep. Most small/medium business owners are 24/7 on call all their lives what is their average after-expense income? Majority of them never succeed and get nothing out of their time and investments. Oh you say biz owners have an opportunity to get very rich. Right! But they need to deal with risk isn't it? Their potential high return is warranted by the risk they take. What the risk for someone who wants to be a doctor? 20% drop out? That's very low. And even they drop out, they still have otehr options such as turning themselves into dentists can't they?
