But given their cost structure (no marketing, small R&D team etc) I can imagine the amount they put in is no where near the amount spent by companies you mentioned to launch a new product. I say the return of this project is in the people and in the process not in commercialization. I think they are aware of the problem you said since they practically did nothing to market the product. May there D-III will have a better chance who knows.
