when i was a child, i receivd New Year's bonus of RMB with several numbers of 4, e.g. 4.4 Yuan, implying "事事如意" ("shi" is pronounced as "si" here).

6 & 8 were popular in Cantonese only, nowadays Chinese all over the world seem to favor it. really strange.
