“The CIA I’m sure is behind this, in my opinion,” Bradley Birkenfeld told CNBC.
Birkenfeld pointed out the leak is primarily directed at enemies and adversaries of the United States.
“The very fact that we see all these names surface that are the direct quote-unquote enemies of the United States, Russia, China, Pakistan, Argentina and we don’t see one U.S. name. Why is that?” Birkenfeld asked. “Quite frankly, my feeling is that this is certainly an intelligence agency operation.”
Birkenfeld, who spent time in prison for abetting tax evasion by one of his clients at the Swiss bank, described the UK Prime Minister David Cameron as collateral damage. Cameron’s father-in-law was identified as a client of a Panamanian law firm that specializes in helping the wealthy avoid paying taxes.
“If you’ve got NSA and CIA spying on foreign governments they can certainly get into a law firm like this,” Birkenfeld said. “But they selectively bring the information to the public domain that doesn’t hurt the U.S. in any shape or form. That’s wrong. And there’s something seriously sinister here behind this.”
Panama Papers Leaked by Organization Supported by CIA-backed Foundation
Earlier this month Infowars reported the organization that broke the Panama Papers story, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, is funded and supported by the Open Society Foundations (a George Soros outfit), the Ford Foundation and a host of other foundations. The Ford Foundation is connected to the CIA and has specialized in international cultural propaganda since the end of the Second World War.
The CIA has long served as a propaganda conduit for the elite. In the 1970s, the Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities found the agency had fed propaganda to a corporate media previously coopted under Operation Mockingbird, a disinformation network established in 1953 by Allen W. Dulles, then director of the CIA.
“More than 400 American journalists… in the past twenty‑five years have secretly carried out assignments for the Central Intelligence Agency, according to documents on file at CIA headquarters,” Watergate journalist Carl Bernstein wrote in 1977.
The CIA still controls media content. In 2014, The Intercept reported on a prominent national security reporter for the Los Angeles Times who submitted story drafts to the CIA. An FOIA request revealed the agency maintains relationships with reporters from the Associated Press, Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and other outlets.
