The alleged attack is said to have taken place in October, with prosecutor Johan Stromback confirming the suspects were all between 16 and 17 years old.

Stromback said all had arrived in Sweden as unaccompanied minors seeking asylum.

If convicted, the group face a minimum of four years behind bars.

The indictment also calls for all five alleged rapists to be expelled from Sweden and barred from ever returning after serving their sentences.

The teens are accused of punching the victim – who is also from Afghanistan – in the head, raping him and spitting on him in a horrific attack.

Court papers also claim the assault “was planned and lasted for at least an hour”, leaving the boy with bruises, scrapes and bite marks on his back.
